Obligatory About Page
I'm an artist and writer. A writer ever since I could hold a pencil, visual art became a major part of my existence after sustaining a spinal cord injury at levels L3 to S2 in 1998. In 2001, I was diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome (complications from the last spinal surgery) and Dysthymia (Chronic Depression) after 2 spinal surgeries and became "officially" disabled. Visual art became one of the strongest and best medicines, had a profound effect on my healing process and continues to infuse and inspire every facet of my life today.
I've survived a train wreck of a childhood and 10 years of alcohol and drug abuse before the ripe old age of 23. I was 11 years sober when my spine was injured by the simple act of stocking the beer cooler at the convenient store I managed. So, see? There really are people who shouldn't ever touch the stuff! While overcoming childhood abuse and getting clean and sober were hard, learning how to be disabled at age 34, kicked my ass.
