The Party's Over

I got tagged.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?

Haven't I been there and done it all?

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I rarely make them. I resolve to do lots of things all year long.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Yes.

5. What countries did you visit?

Z-e-r-o. Met some people from other planets though.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

A disgustingly large  disposable income.

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

December 4, 2007. Woman, my furry familiar of 16 years died.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

30 new assemblages and collages and 3 solo shows.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I cannot think of any failures.  Only "opportunities for growth". Heh.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Uhmmmmm... nothing new.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

More more art & craft supplies.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Manthing, who goes above and beyond the call to do things and put up with my cranky ass most of the time.  I know, hard to believe, but I am not an easy person to live with all the time.  I am not this fabulously cool all the time.. ;)

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

I cannot say publically. Sorry.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Bills and feeding us and the critters.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Working at the Gallery.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

Get in Line

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? Happier.
b) thinner or fatter? Thinner.
c) richer or poorer? About the same.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Destuffing our tiny ramshackle house.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Getting pissed over the behavior of stupid and things.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

With Manthing's family. Ate, opened presents, and listened to the little ones whine and the sound of the big one's DS machines.

NaBloPoMo #18 :: Six Guilty Pleasures

Tagged by Aimee

Name six guilty pleasures no one would suspect you of having:

1. I collect kitschy, Black Americana folk art and items.  I have table bells dressed up as Mammys and Jemimas; advertisements for cigars, ice cream and beverages featuring picaninnies and Uncle Toms. I own old flour sacks and other vintage packaging that feature the aforementioned images. I also collect handmade Tar Baby, Picaninny and Mammy rag dolls; both repro and vintage.

2. I am currently looking for a set of vintage Mammy & Uncle Tom salt shakers in good shape as well as cookie jar and doorstop.

3. In addition to Real Housewives, I also enjoy with relish: Gene Simmons Family Jewels and Girls Next Door.

4. I watch All In The Family, I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith and Leave It To Beaver regularly. I laugh and find them immensely entertaining no matter how many times I see them

5.
I get up as 6:30ish AM and make Manthing's lunch every morning before he trots off to work. I also cook dinner at least 5 nights a week. 90% of the time I enjoy doing it.

6.
I love to lay in bed, snuggling with Manthing and the kitties on Sunday mornings and watch Sunday Morning on CBS, then have a leisurely breakfast and go antiquing, thrifting and rummaging.

Name six guilty pleasures you wish you had the courage/time/money to indulge*:
1. A sewing studio.
2. A ceramic studio, complete with a kiln.
3. Welding and metalsmithing classes.
4.
A set of better cookware.
5. writing the book
6. writing my memoirs

* I added the time/money part. Courage is something I am not short on, at present.

Name six pleasures you once considered guilty but have now either abandoned or made peace with:

1. Being fat. It it is what it is. The more flip the fuck out about it, the fatter I get. The less I worry about it, the more likely I am to to lose what I need to, as evidenced by the 100 pounds l have misplaced in the last 12 months.

2.
My television habit. I watch a lot of classic films and classic television in addition all the current stuff and trash TV I watch.

3. Art and Craft magazines.  I buy a lot, read them and then cannot part with them.

4. My  cluttered house. I live with a slob and June Cleaver, I am not. Besides, June didn't clean her house.  The prop man did.

5.
Making time with Manthing as important as time for myself. He gets his time and I get mine and we get our time together. Makes us better people all around.

6. Blogs. I read lots of blogs and always look for new ones. I am still a bit bad about commenting but I am getting better.

NaBloMoPo 01 :: "Getting To Know You..."

Because there are, presumably, many new peeps visiting, I've obliged you with more information so that you can get to know me better...

or

help you decide you don't want to know me...heh.

I don't remember where I snarfed it from. It's been sitting around on the server awhile.

Consider yourself tagged, if you feel compelled...

*************************************************************************************************************************

Do you have any weird things in your room?:

I'm sure I have PLENTY of weird things in my room, in my house, and especially in my studio. However, *I* like, even cherish, weird things.

If you could have any pet what would you have?:

An imaginary one.  Don't get me wrong, I love my furry beasts but we have enough that thinking about another drives me to the edge.

Best thing to do on a rainy day?:

Watch old movies, snack and  doze.  My cats  have been good teachers.

How many movies do you own?:

  Over 100.

Best vacation you've ever gone on?:

All vacations are "the best" aren't they? I'd have to say I enjoyed my visit to New York, though. I want to go back. How's THAT for weird?

Coolest person you've ever met?:

Manthing

Ever taken a trip on a bus?:

I took a Greyhound from Ohio to California. It's a damn good thing I was still getting loaded back then.

Man Meem

Snarfed from Eden
Because a little topicality never hurt anyone...

1. Who is your man? Manthing
2. How long have you been together? 12 years and some months
3. How long dated? Are you still dating if you never get married?
4. How old is your man? Same age as me.
5. Who eats more? Depends on the food, who cooked it and the temperature.
6. Who said “I love you” first? I don't remember.
7. Who is taller? Me.
8. Who sings better? Me which  ain't sayin' much because he doesn't sing at all.
9. Who is smarter? Neither. We are both brighter, clever and smart.
10. Whose temper is worse? Mine. Though Manthing's fuse is just longer.
11. Who does the laundry? I do. I want to make sure things still fit and remain the right color.
12. Who takes out the garbage? I carry the bags as far as the porch. The rest is his job.
13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do. It's closer to the john.
14. Who pays the bills? He pays more than I do but I pay some.
15. Who is better with the computer? Manthing is. He is good with the hardware. I am better with the software.
16. Who mows the lawn? Manthing is supposed to but he hates it so he pays someone to  cut the grass.
17. Who cooks dinner?  I do unless I am hurting or have made a casserole which can be reheated without fear of being to a crisp.
18. Who drives when you are together? He does. I am under doctor's orders not to drive.
19. Who pays when you go out? Often Manthing. Sometimes me. It depends on his male pride.
20. Who is most stubborn? We are both really pigheaded.
21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? We just don't get into those kinds of discussions. This way neither one of us has to admit anything. Heh.
22. Whose parents do you see the most? Manthing's. They live close by. He's never met my mother.
23. Who kissed who first? He kissed me on our second date. I was done for.
24. Who asked who out? Surprisingly, he did. I was trying out a new thing.
25. Who proposed?  Neither. We decided not to be married.
26. Who is more sensitive? Me.
27. Who has more friends? We are about even.
28. Who has more siblings? He has more.

1. The Misanthtropic: Name something about humanity you absolutely hate.

Wanton Stupidity

I'm thinking of Columbia University here. I'm thinking that if I were parent with a Freshman or maybe even a sophomore at Columbia, I'd have to at least consider paying tuition to another University next year. I am mot interested in supporting the the kind of bullshit that went on there over the last few weeks.

With tuition costs at Columbia University ranging from $17,000 to $34,000 per year, I think I could support an educational institution elsewhere that wasn't headed up by a board of dumbasses and a complete idiot at the School of International & Public Affairs at Columbia . Another thing to keep in mind is that most speakers and lecturers are paid by the institution that invite their lecturers. I don't know if they paid him to speak but I would not be at all surprised if they had.

Remember, a committee had to approve giving Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a platform in which to try and pull the wool over everyone's eyes, use the opportunity to further blast and impune the US in Iran and the Arab world by giving him a forum in which to share to his insanity.

Here are the two links I found with the complete transcript of the event:

Arizona Daily Star Online  and Zionation

The Washington Post published only Ahmadinejad's speech.

2. The Meretricious: Expose something or someone that’s phony, fraudulent or bogus.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad; not that he needed me to expose him as any of these things.

US News & World Report found 10 Things about him I didn't know.

Here's  a new interview with Charlie Rose as published  by the International Herald Tribune.

BBC News did this piece on him last year.

And if you need  extra-special proof, here's his "blog". Be sure to check the "English" option to eyeball his blather.

3. The Malcontent: Name something you’re unhappy with.

Lee Bollinger, President, Columbia University

If you read his introduction, he makes it pretty clear that disagreed with John Coatsworth's (Acting Dean of the School of International & Public Affairs) decision to invite Ahmadinejad but it was not an especially bright or effective strategy to invite him and then insult him especially if the goal is to persuade Iran, Syria or the world of the case against him.

4. The Meritorious: Give someone credit for something and name it if you can.

Here are some good pieces regarding the Columbia debaucle:

New York Times: Middle East, New York Times: CityRoom Blog , The Independent (UK) , BBC News and The Jerusalem Post

5. The Mirror: See something good about yourself and name it

Authentic

6. The Make-Believe: Name something you wish for.

I wish people would think for themselves instead of blindly swallowing the rhetoric and bullshit the media throws at the public at large about most everything.

Now it’s your turn.

You can take part in The Monday Melee, even make it a regular feature at your site by visiting The Monday Melee page and following the steps. Kick-start your brain on Mondays and meet other bloggers.

Thursday 13

Now that the moving is almost over, I can breathe a little more deeply. Oh, we still have a BUTTLOAD of stuff at old house to sort through, toss or move but we're at the end of it. I'd suggest some gas and a match just because I am so tired of moving but its not my house. Story of my life. Anyway I like the new house so much I don't mind being there all the time. In fact, I like it. I like it so much, I decided to make my inaugural Thursday Thirteen post about what I like about my new digs.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about My New House

1.   I like the fact that the school buses come through our neighborhood.
2.     I like it that we have twice as many birds here than we did at the old place.
3. I like it that the dogs can spend all day out in the backyard and I don't have to worry they'll hop the fence and scare the bejeezus out of someone.
4.     I like commuting across the backyard to work in my studio.
5. I like it that once it's free of boxes and such, the cats can go out on the room-sized screened in porch to sun themselves and watch the squirrels and birds.
6.     I like having a large sunny kitchen that holds more than one person.
7.      I like the feeling that I live in a house I can keep up with now.
8.      I like that the washer and dryer are side by side instead of in different rooms.
9.      I like the wooden swing that sits in the backyard.
10.    I like the big magnolia tree in our front yard.
11.    I like our friendly mail carrier.
12.   I like the way the pine trees in our backyard talk when the wind blows.
13.    I like liking where I live.
